Victor and Erika, Introduction and the First Episode
The Story of Victor and Erika
an Adelante project
Victor and Erika live in Langley Park, MD, a primarily immigrant community, a suburb of Washington, DC, and where gangs, prostitution, substance abuse, and domestic violence are common. Despite living in a community full of temptations and perils, Victor and Erika are determined and resilient Latino youth. They experience complex challenges at home and school that require them to grow up quickly to move forward in life. This year, Victor and Erika's troubled past and hopeful present collide, and their future depends on the decisions they make.
Episode 1: "First Day of School"
In this episode, Victor meets Erika's ex-boyfriend and then, he meets with his school's vice principal.
Questions you can use for class discussions include:
- What could Victor done differently?
- Was 5 days suspension fair for Victor, or should he had been expelled?
